At least 20 people were injured - including seven police officers - in clashes between riot police and protesters in Madrid on the 4 August 2011.

Police had stopped the demonstrators, known as 'the indignants' (Indignados), from entering a square in Madrid which has become a focus of anti-government protests.

It was said to be the most serious incident since the protest movement began across Spain in mid-May (15-M Movement)
