On 20 December 2016, the 2016 review of Employment and Social Developments in Europe (ESDE) was published, showing encouraging results.

Around 3 million jobs were created and employment rose, pushing back poverty. However, unemployment remained high, with huge disparities across Member States. Labour markets and societies need to adapt to new forms of work.

2016's Employment and Social Developments – or shortly, 'ESDE' - report focussed on employment as a means to tackle poverty, digitalisation and the changing world of work, the role of social dialogue, disparities among Member States and the integration of refugees in the labour market.
