Responses to the challenges of globalisation

What is driving the globalisation today? How does it challenge both the international monetary and financial system and developing countries? What are the possible responses? These and other questions are at the forefront of international and national discussions and are closely linked to the broader debate about global governance and effective development policy. This report focuses on two main themes: the reform of the international financial architecture as a response to global financial crises and how to finance and promote development as a means of reducing global inequality. It reviews the major proposals brought forward to address these challenges by academics, policy-makers and non-governmental groups. In doing so it provides a basis for informed policy discussion at both the European and global level. The starting point is an analysis of current globalisation trends, its driving forces, benefits and challenges.
