The European Parliament's plenary session approved on 2 March 2017 a resolution bringing forward recommendations on how to make better use of the European Union's trade tools to fight a surge in wildlife trafficking.

The non-binding resolution highlights that the ecological crisis - fuelled by illegal trade in plants and animals - had the EU and the United States as key markets and transit routes.
