Summary:Set of conclusions adopted by the Council of the European Union on 2 December 2022, concerning research infrastructures in the framework of theĀ European Research Area (ERA). Further information:Research infrastructures are seen as the cornerstone in the development of the ERA, which aims to create a single EU market for research, innovation and technology. These infrastructures provide scientists and innovators with expertise, technical devices, data and services to perform cutting-edge basic and applied research, to boost technological advancement and breakthrough innovations. They also bring benefits to industries and SMEs. The conclusions recognise the need to further strengthen research infrastructures and facilitate broader access to them. The Council invites the European Commission and the Member States, through the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), to develop the next edition of the ESFRI Roadmap and to publish it before the end of 2025. The text also invites the Commission to present an initiative on a revised European Charter for Access to Research Infrastructures by 2023. This set of conclusions was adopted at a meeting of the Council of the European Union on 2 December 2022. |
