Summary:Report published by the European Commission on 23 September 2022, concerning the implementation of Directive (EU) 2015/1535 - also known as the Single Market Transparency Directive (SMTD) - in the period between 2016 and 2020. Further information:Directive (EU) 2015/1535 - also known as the Single Market Transparency Directive - requires national authorities to inform the European Commission of any draft technical regulations on products and information society services before they are adopted in national law, though it allows for some exceptions. This report analyses the results of the application of the notification procedure laid down by the Directive The report highlights the procedure's contribution to the functioning of the European Union's single market and to implementing the Better Regulation guidelines and toolbox, as well as its role during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. It shows that EU Member States have become more transparent in adopting national technical regulations for products and information society services. They have also increased cooperation among Member States and with the European Commission when addressing potential challenges from these to ensure the smooth functioning of the single market. The transparency principles helped to have a coordinated approach during the pandemic. |
