The European Parliament's plenary session endorsed on 25 October 2016 a report assessing the European Unon's strategy regarding its gas storage capacity.

According to the text, the EU strategy for liquefied natural gas (LNG) must make energy supplies more secure, cut carbon emissions and deliver affordable prices. The report also calls on the European Commission to aim to reduce the EU’s dependency on gas in the long term by using it more efficiently and gradually phasing out fossil fuel subsidies.

The report follows up on a Communication published in February 2016 outlining the EU's Strategy for liquefied natural gas and gas storage.
