In advance of the referendum on the Intergovernmental Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union, the Irish Government set up a Sub-Committee of the Joint Committee of European Union Affairs to carry out an intensive series of meetings with interested parties on issues relating to the Treaty. These meetings were held in Leinster House from January until April of 2012. In all, over sixty witnesses were called to give evidence. These witnesses included economists, academics, lawyers, politicians, ambassadors and leaders from Irish civil society. This Executive Summary provides a list of the main points of discussion from these meetings, and an outline of positions taken on them by those who spoke and made submissions. |
