As part of the Third Maritime Safety package, the European Parliament and the Council adopted in 2009 Regulation (EC) No 391/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council on common rules and standards for ship inspection and survey organisations (the Regulation) and Directive 2009/15/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on common rules and standards for ship inspection and survey organisations and for the relevant activities of maritime administrations (the Directive).

This report aims to inform the European Parliament and the Council on the progress in the implementation of this legislation in accordance with Article 17 of the Regulation and Article 12 of the Directive respectively.
