The issue of receiving refugees and their subsequent integration into Member State societies is likely to remain at the top of the political agenda for the foreseeable future with financial implications for authorities at EU, national, regional and local levels alike. Against the backdrop of an unprecedented influx of refugees into the EU territory, the Committee of the Regions (CoR) identified the need for updated and systematised information on integration policies in individual Member States and, most importantly, the need for practical information for LRAs on funding to manage the acute challenges linked to migration and the subsequent integration of refugees and migrants. One of the most important methods of integrating refugees and migrants is employment. For this reason, the CoR first asked the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) for an analysis of the regulatory framework on employment for asylum seekers and refugees in eight EU Member States. The resulting study entitled 'Work and social welfare for asylum seekers' was delivered in November 2015. The CoR sought to complement this earlier research with a study on the 'Regulatory Framework on Employment and Funding for Migration and Integration Policies in the EU'.
