Summary: Regulation (EU) No 1292/2013 - adopted by the European Union on 11 December 2013 - which amends the Regulation establishing the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (also known as the EIT Regulation). This is a Text with EEA relevance. Further information: The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) aims to strengthen the innovation capacity of European Union (EU) countries by integrating higher education, research and innovation and promoting synergies and cooperation between them, in line with the highest standards. During the period 2014-2020, the EIT is set to contribute to the general objective of 'Horizon2020 - The Framework Programme for Research and Innovation' by integrating the knowledge triangle of higher education, research and innovation. This integration takes place primarily via the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs), which bring together organisations on a long-term basis around societal challenges. The EIT was set up by Regulation (EC) No 294/2008. The proposed amendments were based on several sources: lessons learnt during the initial period, the proposed EIT Strategic Innovation Agenda, the recommendations of the external evaluation report and Commission opinion on the evaluation, as well as the results of broad consultations with EIT stakeholders. This proposal was put forward by the European Commission on 30 November 2011, following a period of consultations. |
