Summary: Regulation (EU) 2021/1756 - adopted by the European Union on 6 October 2021 - introducing amendments to Regulation (EU) 2017/625 concerning official controls on animals and products of animal original exported from third countries to the EU - also known as Official Controls Regulation - and to Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 as regards the direct supply of meat from poultry and lagomorphs. This is a text with EEA relevance. Further information: Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 lays down specific hygiene rules for food of animal origin for food business operators. Regulation (EU) 2017/625 sets out common rules for official controls aimed at ensuring the application and enforcement of relevant EU agri-food chain legislation. In particular, it ensures compliance with the prohibition of certain uses of antimicrobials. The draft law was originally put forward to modify Article 1(4)(c) of Regulation (EU) 2017/625 to include a caveat to the fact that Regulation (EU) 2019/6 is exempt from its scope. It aimed at integrating controls to verify compliance with Article 118 of the latter Regulation. Amendments to Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 were also included to introduce a derogation to all meat of poultry and lagomorphs on a permanent basis. The proposal for this Regulation was tabled by the European Commission on 9 March 2021. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 6 October 2021 and published in the Official Journal on 8 October 2021. |
