Summary: Regulation (EU) 2021/1068 - formally adopted by the European Union on 24 June 2021 - introducing amendments to Regulation (EU) 2016/1628 as regards its transitional provisions for certain machinery fitted with engines in the power ranges greater than or equal to 56 kW and less than 130 kW, and greater than or equal to 300 kW. This is a text with EEA relevance. Further information: Regulation (EU) 2016/1628 defines pollutant emission limits for engines of different power ranges and applications for NRMM with the aim of gradually reducing emissions and phasing out equipment with the most polluting engines. The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic caused disruption of the supply chain, which has had an impact on the the ability of manufacturers to meet some of the deadlines imposed by such Regulation. Regulation (EU) 2020/1040 was adopted to prolong those deadlines by 12 months. However, supply chain and production disruptions caused by the pandemic led to continued delays in the production and placing on the market of machinery fitted with engines in the power ranges greater than or equal to 56 kW, and greater or equal to 300 kW. Given the circumstances it became necessary to prolong the transitional provisions for those categories of engines. This is in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the internal market, to provide legal certainty and to avoid potential market disruption. The extension of the relevant periods should be six months for the production of the machinery fitted with those engines and nine months for the placing on the market. This Regulation was signed by the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament on 24 June 2021. It was published in the Official Journal on 30 June 2021. |
