Summary: The European Commission presented on 29 March 2017 a proposal for a Regulation laying down management, conservation and control measures applicable in the Convention Area of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO). The Council of the European Union and the European Parliament reached an informal agreement on the proposal on 26 February 2018, and a provisional agreement was scheduled for a plenary vote during the May 2018 session of the European Parliament. The Regulation was adopted on 4 July. Further information: The proposed legislation aims at transposing into EU law the conservation, control and enforcement measures adopted by the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO) to which the European Union is a Contracting Party. SPRFMO is the Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (RFMO) responsible for the management of fishery resources in the South Pacific and adjoining seas excluding tuna and tuna-like species. |
