Regulating interest group participation in the European Union: changing paradigms between transparency and representation

Examines how the EU has changed its approach to the regulation of interest groups, and evaluates the effectiveness of the different models it has adopted. Reviews the goals, concerns and policy instruments underpinning the regulation of interest group participation, highlighting the growing importance of transparency and representation, and details the changing weight given to these by individual Commission initiatives. Discusses how the different concepts used by the EU reflect its changing priorities, and details the benefits and shortcomings of the different instruments.
