Date: 09/05/1996 this week announced minor changes to the existing list of areas eligible for funding under Objective 2 of the Structural Funds for the 1997-99 period. Only Spain, Italy and the Netherlands opted to change their lists. Funding of 8.15 billion ecu will be concentrated on job creation, environmental protection, R&D and equal opportunities. The Commission also announced the final adoption of the financial reserve under the 'Community Initiatives', with only minor amendments to its original proposals. Total financing for these various initiatives is 1.665 billion ecu. |
