Regional Integration in a Global Context: Implications for Sub-Saharan Africa

This policy brief compares the founding conditions, processes, and structures of the economic agreements in Africa with those for the EU, and explores alternative paths for regional cooperation. Particularly in a time of tight budgets for development support, transatlantic partners should help African states honestly determine the costs and benefits of various forms of integration, with an eye toward the primary goal behind integration: economic development.
