Regional gross domestic product dropped sharply in 2009, but not all regions were hit in the same way

This issue of 'Statistics in Focus' analyses the structure of regional Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the European Union in 2009. The analysis focuses on the effects of the economic and financial crisis, i.e. the development between 2008 and 2009. Mid-term developments are illustrated by way of a comparison of the three-year averages of the years 2000-2002 with the years 2007-2009.
