On 6 June 2001 a Regional Conference of Central European States took place in Vienna. Upon Austria's invitation the Foreign Ministers of Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Poland debated on their existing regional co-operation and possibilities to improve it. The participating states also focused in their talks on the integration of Austria's neighbour countries and Poland into the discussion about the future of European Union. The Regional Conference was meant to be the starting point of the concept of a 'Partnership' in Central Europe including the above mentioned countries and consisting of a natural combination of their efforts in the fields of politics, economy, infrastructure, energy, environment, communication and traffic, justice and interior, youth, science, culture and regional cooperation
