In Reclaiming Britishness, leading politicians, thinkers and practitioners explore how a modern, inclusive and outward-looking British identity can guide us through difficult policy choices. They take stock of where the heady talk of a reborn British identity has got to in the wake of the 11 September attacks, the riots of Summer 2001 and the recent elections in France and Holland. And they suggest practical ways to connect with those who feel excluded from the traditional symbols of British identity.
