The European Parliament's foreign affairs committee approved on 28 February 2017 its reaction to the reports published by the European Commission concerning Kosovo and Serbia, as part of the annual Enlargement Package. MEPs welcomed the opening of new chapters in the accession negotiations with Serbia and praised the country's efforts to tackle its political and economic challenges. Members of the committee also welcomed the entry into force of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with Kosovo and the Commission's proposal to waive visas for Kosovan citizens. They showed concern over the difficulties to contain political polarisation and violent outbreaks. Finally, they called on remaining EU member states to recognise Kosovo's independence. |
