Quarterly Report on the Euro Area, March 2002

With the publication of a Quarterly Report on the Euro Area, the European Commission's Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs intends to contribute to a better understanding of economic developments in the euro area and to improve the quality of the public debate surrounding the area's economic policy. The Report will be released at the end of March, June, September and December. The first issue, March 2002, assesses the current economic situation in the euro area, considering the evidence that the trough of the slowdown has been passed, and has a special focus on inflation, with specific attention to the impact of the euro cash changeover.
