Q&A: EU Common Energy Policy

The European Commission presented its first Strategic European Energy Review (SEER) on 10 January 2007. The Review endeavoured to provide a vision - a central European energy objective - that will underpin a European energy policy and give a practical step-by-step map on how to achieve this vision. This paper was to be the basis for a broad discussion on the Energy Policy for Europe in the European Council, March 2007. The SEER was complemented with in depth reports on all the main issues concerning energy policy including Renewable Energy, the Internal Gas and Electricity Market, Sustainable Power Generation from Fossil Fuels, Nuclear, Technology, and Infrastructures. It was accompanied by the final results of the Energy Sector Inquiry launched in June 2005.
