Putin urges consensus on Kosovo

Russian President Vladimir Putin said January 2008 any decision on Kosovo's fate must be agreed by Belgrade and Pristina. His UN envoy said that world bodies would not recognise Kosovo if it declared unilateral independence. Russia promised to block Kosovo's entry to the United Nations and other international political institutions if the country goes ahead with plans to declare independence from Serbia.
