Summary:

Background paper for the seminar: " What is the cost of the non-regularisation of undocumented migrants? " , first meeting (29 October 2008) of the Anglo-French Dialogue on Regularisation and Co-Development.

The agreement on a European Pact on Immigration and Asylum, the vote of the “Return Directive”, the adoption of the Points Based System in the UK, and the six laws on immigration and asylum in France all put forward a managerial approach to immigration, that openly attracts skilled workers and investors, whilst filtering less attractive candidates to immigration (like family-related migrants, asylum seekers and, of course), and the fight against irregular immigration.
