Public procurement

The UK Government’s decision to award a train-building contract to Siemens of Germany ahead of the UK based arm of Bombardier in June 2011, led to criticisms of the application of EU procurement rules in the UK.

In the meantime, the European Commission has also recently consulted on the effectiveness of the procurement directives. Legislative proposals to simplify procurement processes were published by the Commission in December 2011.
