Summary:Protocol implementing the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Union (EU) and the Republic of Mauritius for the period between 2022 and 2026. Further information:The Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the EU and the Mauritius was signed in December 2012 and entered into force in January 2014 for a period of 6 years. The latest Protocol on the implementation of the Agreement covered a period of four years from the date of its provisional application. It was signed in December 2017 and expired in December 2021. A six-month extension was agreed in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the two sides, and was signed in April 2022. On the basis of the relevant negotiating directives, the European Commission carried out negotiations with Mauritian authorities on concluding a new Protocol. Following these talks, a new Protocol was initialled on 7 May 2022. The new Protocol covers a period of four years from the date of provision application, that date being the date on which it is signed by both parties. A related Regulation was adopted by the Council of the European Union on 8 November 2022 to distribute the fishing opportunities among the interested EU Member States. |
