Summary: Article 130a of the Treaty states that, in order to strengthen its economic and social cohesion, the Community shall aim at reducing disparities between the levels of development of the various regions and the backwardness of the least favoured regions, including rural areas; whereas Article 130b provides for that action to be supported through the Structural Funds, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the other existing financial instruments. |
