Summary:Regulation (EU) 2017/1369 - adopted by the co-legislators on 4 July 2017 - setting a framework for energy labelling. It repeals Directive 2010/30/EU. This is a text with EEA relevance. Further information:This Regulation lays down a framework that applies to energy-related products placed on the market or put into service. It provides for the labelling of those products and the provision of standard product information regarding energy efficiency, the consumption of energy and of other resources by products during use and supplementary information concerning products. Energy labelling is deemed favourable for the environment because customers can obtain accurate, relevant and comparable information on the energy efficient and consumption of energy-related products wherever they are in the EU. It enables customers to choose more efficient products in order to reduce their energy consumption. In October 2014, the European Council set an indicative target at EU level of at least 27% for improving energy efficiency. In February 2015, the European Commission adopted a Framework Strategy for a Resilient Energy Union, which included a review of Directive 2010/30/EU (also known as the Energy Labelling Directive). It sought to further exploit the he potential of energy efficiency for the moderation of energy demand and consequent reduction of the energy dependency of the EU. The draft law was eventually adopted by the European Commission on 15 July 2015 as part of a legislative package focusing on energy policy. The Council of the European Union adopted its general approach to the proposal on 26 November 2015. The plenary of the European Parliament endorsed a negotiating position on 6 July 2016. An informal agreement between the co-legislators on a compromise text for this file on 21 March 2017. It was formally endorsed by the Parliament on 13 June and by the Council on 26 June. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 4 July 2017 and published in the Official Journal on 28 July 2017. |
