Summary: Regulation (EU) 2021/694 - formally adopted by the co-legislators on 29 April 2021 - establishing the Digital Europe Programme for the duration of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021-2027. This is a text with EEA relevance. Further information: This Regulation lays down the objectives of the Programme, its budget, forms of EU funding and the rules for providing such funding. It repeals Decision (EU) 2015/2240. The programme is established as part of the response to the challenge of digital transformation, adding to the regulatory framework of the Digital Single Market (DSM) strategy. It focus on reinforcing the European Union's capacity in all main digital fields while ensuring their wide use across the economy and society. It is foreseen that it is also to complement other EU programmes. The proposal was put forward by the European Commission on 6 June 2018 in the framework of its proposals for the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021-2027. The Council of the European Union adopted a partial general approach (excluding budgetary matters) on 4 December 2018, followed by the plenary of the European Parliament on 13 December. An informal agreement on a compromise text between the co-legislators was reached on 13 February 2019. As part of the revised proposals for the MFF 2021-2027, informal negotiations were later re-opened between the co-legislators on this programme. A new informal agreement was reached on 14 December 2020. It was formally endorsed by the Council on 16 March 2021, followed by the formal endorsement by the Parliament. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 29 April 2021 and published in the Official Journal on 11 May 2021. |
