Further information:The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO) is the regional fisheries management organisation (RFMO) responsible for managing fishery resources in the Northwest Atlantic. The European Union (EU) has been a Contracting Party to NAFO since 1979. Regulation (EU) 2019/833 implemented into EU law the NAFO conservation and enforcement measures. The main purpose of this draft Regulation is to cover the amendments to those measures adopted by NAFO at its annual meeting, held in September 2021. It also includes the NAFO editorial improvements and adapts the wording to the EU legal context. The amendments entered into force in December 2021. This initiative was put forward by the European Commission on 16 February 2022. An informal agreement between the co-legislators was reached on 13 July. This was formally confirmed by the European Parliament on 13 September, followed by the Council of the European Union on 4 October. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 19 October 2022 and published in the Official Journal on 25 October 2022. |
