Summary: Decision (EU) 2022/458 - formally signed by the co-legislators on 9 March 2022 - which mobilises the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) in response to application EGF/2021/006 ES/Cataluña automotive. Further information: The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aims to provide support for workers made redundant and self-employed persons whose activity has ceased as a result of major structural changes in world trade patterns due to globalisation, as a result of a continuation of the global financial and economic crisis, or as a result of a new global financial and economic crisis, and to assist them with their reintegration into the labour market. Spain submitted an application for a financial contribution from the EGF in September 2021, following job losses in the car industry in Catalonia. Following an assessment of this application, the European Commission concluded that the conditions for awarding a financial contribution from the EGF had been met. On 20 January 2022, it tabled a proposal for a Decision to allocate a financial contribution of around €2.8 million in respect of the application submitted by the Spanish authorities. The European Parliament endorsed the proposed Decision on 8 March 2022. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on the following day, and published in the Official Journal on 22 March 2022. |
