Summary: Proposal for a Decision put forward by the European Commission on 7 October 2021, which mobilises the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) in response to application EGF/2021/001 ES/País Vasco metal. Further information: The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aims to provide support for workers made redundant and self-employed persons whose activity has ceased as a result of major structural changes in world trade patterns due to globalisation, as a result of a continuation of the global financial and economic crisis, or as a result of a new global financial and economic crisis, and to assist them with their reintegration into the labour market. Spain submitted an application for a financial contribution from the EGF in June 2021, following displacements in the Basque metal sector as a result of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Following an assessment of this application, the European Commission concluded that the conditions for awarding a financial contribution from the EGF had been met. On 7 October 2021, it tabled a proposal for a Decision to allocate a financial contribution of around €1.2 million in respect of the application submitted by the Spanish authorities. |
