Summary: Proposal for a Decision put forward by the European Commission in October 2019, which mobilises the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) in response to application EGF/2019/001 BE/Carrefour. Further information: The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aims to provide support for workers made redundant and self-employed persons whose activity has ceased as a result of major structural changes in world trade patterns due to globalisation, as a result of a continuation of the global financial and economic crisis, or as a result of a new global financial and economic crisis, and to assist them with their reintegration into the labour market. Belgium submitted an application on 20 June 2019 for a financial contribution from the EGF following redundancies in Carrefour Belgique SA. Following an assessment of this application, the European Commission concluded that the conditions for awarding a financial contribution from the EGF had been met. It therefore adopted a proposal for a Decision to allocate a financial contribution of €1,632,028 in respect of the application submitted by Belgium. The plenary session of the European Parliament endorsed the proposed Decision on 14 November. |
