Summary: On 2 August 2018 the European Commission presented a proposal for a Council Decision on the position to be taken on behalf of the Union regarding Turkey's request to become a Participant to the Arrangement on Officially Supported Export Credits. Further information: The Arrangement on Officially Supported Export Credits is a Gentlemen's Agreement among the EU, the US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Norway, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand which aims to provide a framework for the orderly use of officially supported export credits. The Arrangement entered into force on April 1978. In September 2017 Turkey requested to become a Participant to the Arrangement. This request was discussed at the Meeting of the Participants in confidential session on 15 November 2017, however no decision was taken as the Participants, including the EU, did not have a position on the issue. The November 2018 Meeting of the Participants is expected to adopt a decision concerning the request from Turkey. |
