Proposal for a Council Decision on the position to be taken by the European Union within the Committee on Cultural Cooperation set up by the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and its Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Korea, of the other part, as regards its establishment and the adoption of the rules of procedures of the Committee on Cultural Cooperation

The Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and its Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Korea, of the other part was signed on 6 October 2010, and it is provisionally applied as of 1 July 2011.

Article 3 of the Protocol on Cultural Cooperation foresees the creation of a Committee on Cultural Cooperation and sets out the Committee's main tasks and functions. In the light of the need to swiftly initiate the implementation of the Protocol, the Committee is to be created and its Rules of Procedure are to be adopted at the Committee's first meeting. In accordance with Article 3.2 of the Protocol, the first such meeting shall take place within the first year of application of the Protocol.

The attached proposal constitutes the proposal for a legal instrument approving the position that the European Union will be taking in the Committee on the above mentioned issue.
