Summary:Decision (EU) 2022/2296 - adopted by the Council of the European Union on 21 November 2022 - putting forward guidelines for the employment policies of the Member States. Further information:Pursuant to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), Member States are to regard their economic policies and promoting employment as a matter of common concern and shall coordinate their action within the Council of the European Union. The Council is to adopt employment guidelines, specifying that they must be consistent with the broad economic policy guidelines. The Decision updates the guidelines for Member States' employment policies with a strong focus on the post-COVID 19 environment, on making the green and digital transitions socially fair, as well as on reflecting some of the latest policy initiatives, including in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, such as measures to enable access to the labour market for people fleeing the war in Ukraine. The draft Decision was tabled by the European Commission on 23 May 2022 as part of its Spring Package of the 2022 European Semester. A Resolution concerning this initiative was adopted by the plenary of the European Parliament on 18 October. The Decision was adopted by the Council of the European Union on 21 November and published in the Official Journal on 24 November. |
