Proposal by the European Commission for a directive on statutory audit of annual and consolidated accounts, September 2004. Consultation document

The UK Department of Trade and Industry, on 10 September 2004, launched a consulation on new proposals for pan-European standards on auditor independence and audit quality. The Directive being proposed by the European Commission would amend Council Directives 78/660/EEC and 83/349/EEC and replace the existing EC 8th Company Law Directive of 1984, as well as making a number of changes to the present rules on statutory audits. Deadline for responses: 30 November 2004.
