Privatisation in the European Union. Theory and policy perspectives:
A new title in the series Industrial Economic Strategies for Europe, which addresses the current challenges to European economic policy. This title looks at the question of privatisation in Europe. In 1996 about 56% of the privatisations in the world, measured in terms of financial receipts, took place in Western Europe, but the process has not been even. Some countries, such as the UK, Portugal and France, have seen major privatisation programmes in recent years, while in other countries much less activity has occurred. The motives for the process have also varied from country to country.

Following an introductory chapter summarising the contents of the book, an overview chapter reviewing privatisation across the EU and a theory chapter which explores the theoretical foundations of privatisation in economics, the rest of the book is devoted to nine country chapters covering developments in Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Spain, the UK and the Netherlands, plus a regional chapter covering the Scandinavian countries.
