Pressure by media halts EU plans to curb sexism

Interview with Anna Diamantopoulou, European Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs, in which she says that the media is not included in a draft law against gender discrimination that she will present in November 2003. The original plan would have had huge implications for newspapers, parts of Italian television and advertisers using sex to sell products and services. Some media corporations had been concerned that any ban could amount to editorial censorship.
