The European Commission has adopted a proposal to assist pig farmers in coping with fluctuations in market prices. Member States would be authorised to establish a regulatory fund in their territory. The fund would be financed by producers and would enable them to stabilise incomes through a system of levies to be collected during periods when their economic situation is satisfactory. In exchange, payments would be made during periods of a difficult market situation . The proposal foresees the voluntary participation of pig farmers for a minimum period of five years. |
