On 20 January 2004 the European Parliament and the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) held an awareness-raising day in Brussels on European humanitarian aid, for about 550 young people from all EU Member States. It was hoped the event would mobilise young Europeans around the values of European solidarity which is at the core of humanitarian aid efforts carried out by ECHO, worth around €500 million every year. |
