The European Parliament’s negotiators with the Council of the European Union on the proposed single resolution mechanism for ailing banks won the support of MEPs in the European Parliament plenary on the 6 February 2014 for the line they had taken in talks with EU member states on the last block of legislation needed to establish an EU banking union.

Group leaders in the debate before the vote criticised the Council's stance, which, they said, was leading to a waste of precious time.
