On 15 September 2014, the annual meeting of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe opened, bringing together representatives of the 53 Member States in the WHO European Region to take stock of what has been achieved and to decide what should be done next. During the four-day meeting, about 350 participants considered the progress made in implementing the WHO European policy framework, Health 2020, and nominated the WHO Regional Director for Europe for a five-year term of office. The Regional Committee was also expected to endorse innovative action plans, negotiated over the last year, on some of the key public health issues in the Region: vaccination, child and adolescent health, prevention of child maltreatment, and food and nutrition. |
