Following the extraordinary session of the European Council that took place in Brussels on 11 March 2011, the Council announced that the EU and the Member States stood ready to provide the necessary support as the current migratory situation in Southern Europe continued to evolve. In particular, the EU, through the Frontex Hermes 2011 operation, would continue to monitor the impact of events on migratory movements both within and from the region. |
