The European Parliament's civil liberties committee approved on 06 May 2015 an amendment on the Dublin Regulation, which determines which member states should examine asylum applications. The members of the committee defended that EU asylum applications for unaccompanied minors should be processed in the EU country where the child is present, even if this is not where the child first applied. They considered that processing where children are present is usually in their best interests, and avoids moving them unnecessarily between member states. This committee also voted to give MEP Cecilia Wikström a mandate to negotiate with the Council of the European Union. |
