The European Parliament approved a resolution on 15 January 2015 which states that EU sanctions against Russia should stay in place until it changed its aggressive policy in Ukraine, withdrew its troops and stopped supporting separatists. MEPs also condemned 'acts of terrorism' in Ukraine. The chamber urged the EU to come up with a plan to counter the Russian 'information war' and help Ukraine to carry out reforms, cope with its humanitarian and health emergency and enhance its defence capabilities. Russia announced on 18 January 2015 Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko had rejected a peace plan proposed to him by his counterpart, Vladimir Putin. In the meantime, battle continues on the ground for the control of the eastern region of Ukraine. |
