On 12.7.00 the European Commission cleared the proposed UK Tonnage Tax Regime. The initiative aims to help make UK shipping more competitive in the global market by creating a positive fiscal environment for shipping, in line with other major maritime countries. It also includes training incentives aimed at preserving and rebuilding EC maritime employment and know-how. Within the EU, Germany, Greece and the Netherlands all currently have tonnage tax schemes in force. |
