The UK Minister for the Environment, Margaret Beckett, in a speech at the Royal Show on 4 July 2005, praised England's farmers for their flexibility, innovation and willingness to change. Mrs Beckett also announced that the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) was to spend more than £1 million over three years on a new Agricultural Change and Environment Observatory Programme which would monitor the effects of CAP reform on the environment in England. |
