The European Parliament approved on 11 February 2015 revised rules on the cross-border sharing of traffic offenders’ data, which should help ensure that drivers who commit offences while abroad in the European Union do not escape fines.

These rules, which aim to ensure equal treatment of drivers and improve road safety, were scheduled to be extended to the United Kingdom, Ireland and Denmark within two years.
